Hazel LaVern Lent, 82, Mutual 7, passed away March 7, 2014.
Hazel was born Oct. 16, 1931, to Edward LaVern Sheldon and Hazel Allean Tanner Sheldon in Dallas, Texas.
She married John David Lent on Feb. 12, 1954, at the North Long Beach Bretheran Church. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on Feb. 12.
They lived in La Palma for 24 years, before moving to Spanaway, Wash., for 12 years. They returned to California and moved into Leisure World in 2001.
Hazelwas a nursing instructor at Long Beach City College for 20 years, retiring in 1989.
John was a member of the LW Orchestra from 2001-2013. They were also members of the Christian Center, Assembly of God Church.
Hazel, who was also known by her middle name, LaVerne, was devoted to taking care of others and willing to help anyone in need.
Hazel is survived by her husband, John David Lent; children, John Edward Lent, Linda May Schulz and Laura Marie Lakso; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service, officiated by John Heide, will be held on March 22 in Clubhouse 4 at 3 p.m.
Burial is at Riverside National Cemetery.
