Golf carts will parade through LW on Dec. 18

The Rollin’ Thunder Golf Cart Club’s Christmas luncheon is Wednesday, Dec. 18, in Clubhouse 2, at noon.

The club is providing roast beef. Members are asked to bring warm side dishes, i.e. potatoes, veggies, rolls, salads, etc., to go with the beef. Organizers are asking for not so many desserts, as there are always too many.

Members are reminded to decorate their carts for the club’s annual parade through LW after the luncheon.

The parade will leave from Clubhouse 6; turn right on Golden Rain Road. Turn right on El Dorado Drive, follow around Northwood to Del Monte Drive. Turn right onto Interlachen Road; right again onto St. Andrews Drive; then left on Oakmont Road back to El Dorado Drive. Turn left on El Dorado, left on Knollwood Road up to Pelham Road and then turn right on St. Andrews Drive. Follow St. Andrews Drive, turn right to Thunderbird Drive, left on Monterey, right on Merion Way, left on Thunderbird Drive. Turn right on Golden Rain Road back to Clubhouse 6.

Bring warm clothes and a blanket, and fully charged carts.

Free parking at lot is door prize

The main door prize to be given away at the Dec. 17 Leisure World RV Club’s annual holiday party/dinner in Clubhouse 4 will be a free RV parking space for 2014 for one of the members. The only way to be qualified to receive this prize is to come to the holiday party. There will be entertainment, along with door prizes and a 50/50.

Happy hour and entertainment is from 5-6 p.m. with dinner at 6. The holiday party is a potluck, with the club providing the main course, chicken and ham. Sign-up in the lot office or call the office. Organizers need to know how many people are going to attend.

December’s campout is at Golden Village Palms in Hemet. This is a three-night trip, Monday-Thursday, Dec. 30-Jan. 2. Wagonmasters are Wood and Betty Woodson from the Rolling 888’s Elks Lodge. The sign-up sheet and fliers are in the office.

Other dates to remember:

•Campout at the Rose RV Park in Quartzsite, Ariz. This is a four-night trip. Thursday-Monday, Jan. 23-27. Wagonmasters are Bob Croft and Bob Konier.

• February’s campout will be at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Around Town

• The Long Beach Camerata Singers and Symphony Orchestra will ring in the holidays with an annual tradition of George Frederic Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 3:30 p.m. The production includes a full 80-piece orchestra. The New York Club has $10 senior tickets to the production at the Long Beach City College Auditorium, 4901 E. Carson St., Long Beach. Transportation is not included. • See beautifully decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes sail along the harbor in the 105th annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!,” Dec. 18-21. The parade starts off Bay Island at 6:30 p.m. and finishes at the same site at approximately 9 each evening.

• The 67th Naples Island Holiday Boat Parade, featuring small decorated crafts cruising through the canals, and larger yachts circling outside the canals on Alamitos Bay, is Dec. 21. The large boats start patrolling the water at 6 p.m.; the small boats enter the canal at 6:45. The parade coincides with Naples’ annual contest for best decorated houses. The houses around Naples Island put on one of the best displays of Christmas and Hanukkah lights in Southern California. Judging is Dec. 18.
