The Leisure World Pool Club had it’s last beer bust and pool tournament of the year Dec. 21. Members renewed their membership and officers were elected for the new year. Mike Mooney is the new president; Allen Bourhenne is secretary, and Dave Silva returns as treasurer. To join the club, dues are $5. To join the club’s board, contact Dave at 493-8812.
After lunch, members drew names for partners in an 8-ball double elimination tournament featuring eight teams. Alternating shots were played and Billiard Congress of America rules were used.
In the third round, Phil Kay and Bill Clawson met Kurt Bourhenne and Dave Silva in the winner’s bracket finals. Dave made a long cut shot in the corner to remain the final team in the winner’s half.
Ken Harpham and Ren Villanueva won a long, tight battle against Glen Morris and Ralph Buscher to play Phil and Bill for a chance at the finals.
Ren and Ken won, as Ren was left with a shot at the 8-ball hanging in the corner pocket.
Ren and Ken needed to win two straight games from Kurt and Dave. It came down to Ken and Ren having two solid balls left and Dave having a shot to cut the nine down the rail. He made the shot and left Kurt a short straight in shot on the nine to win the tournament.
