PRESIDENTS’ COUNCIL

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Presidents’ Council for January has been cancelled.

All Leisure World member/shareholder/owners are invited instead to attend the next meeting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, in Clubhouse 4.

Actual participation will be limited to the presidents and director guests (one per Mutual). Suggestions for discussion topics may be submitted to mutual president for consideration.

WE THE PEOPLE

We The People Club has cancelled its Dec. 23 meeting due to the Christmas holiday. The next general meeting will be at 6:30 p.m, Jan. 27, in Clubhouse 2.

The purpose of the club is to offer educational and information relative to the Leisure World community and lifestyle at monthly meetings. Everyone is invited.

CITY OF SEAL BEACH OFFICE CLOSURE

The City of Seal Beach will be closed for the holidays beginning Monday, Dec. 23, and will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Emergency City services such as police department and marine safety will be unaffected by the closure, and city maintenance crews will be on standby in case of emergencies.

No street sweeping will be performed Wednesday, Dec. 25, or Wednesday, Jan. 1. Normal street sweeping operations will resume Thursday, Jan. 2.

The Building Department will be available for inspections during the holiday closure on Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30, 2013 from 8 a.m. to noon. To schedule an inspection, call the inspection line at 431-2527, ext. 1529, by 3 p.m. for an inspection on the following day.

SCE POWER OUTAGE

Southern California Edison reported that equipment failure triggered a power outage to 134 customers, including residents on Southport Lane and Oakmont Road. The power went out at about 6:35 a.m., Tuesday, with service expected to be restored by 6 p.m. that night.

When outages occur, people may contact SCE’s 24-Hour Customer Communication Center for information at (800) 611-1911 or www.sce.com/outage.

GRF SPECIAL MEETING

An executive session of the Golden Rain Foundation Board of Directors is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 23, at 9 a.m. in the Clubhouse 4 Art Room.

The purpose of the meeting is to hear a legal update in executive session. The agenda is as follows:

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT MEETING CANCELLED

The Golden Rain Foundation Traffic Enforcement Ad Hoc Committee scheduled for Dec. 19 has been cancelled due to the holidays.

LANDSCAPE COUNCIL MEETING CANCELLED

The Landscape Council meeting, originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 20, has been cancelled.

CITY COUNCIL REORGANIZES

The Seal Beach City Council reorganized at its meeting Dec. 9. Starting in 2014, Ellery Deaton of District 1 representing Old Town will serve as mayor.

She took the gavel from Gary Miller, who serves District 4 in College Park East.

Mayor Deaton’s term of office expires this year; Mr. Millers, in 2016.

The council voted David W. Sloan as mayor pro tem. Mr. Sloan represents District 2, which encompasses part of Leisure World and College Park West. His term expires in 2016.

Other council members are Gordon Shanks of District 3, representing the Marina Hill area; and Michael Levitt, of District 5, representing Leisure World. The terms of both councilmen expire this year.
